George is the resident
greenhouse dog. A Border Collie/Labrador Retriever mix, George picked us
during a visit to the local animal shelter in May of 2000. To say George is
rowdy would be an understatement. He got his name due to his curious nature
– “Curious George”, but he has been called many things, most of which should
not be repeated in public. George loves to swim and thinks that the pool is
his personal playground. He also loves to chase squirrels, birds, flies,
etc. When he was a puppy he would stop on the sidewalk to watch ants moving
in a column. But most of all George is a farm dog and happiest when he is
outside “helping” while I work in the greenhouse. One of his favorite
tricks is to drop a tennis ball in a freshly made bin of potting soil and
then look at me until I throw it. He has me trained well and we repeat this
until I give up.

While George is the
greenhouse dog his brother Beau is the inside dog. Beau is an American
Black and Tan Coonhound that we adopted from a rescue group shortly before
Christmas in 2000. While Beau does love to bay (or is it laugh) at the
neighbors dachshund mix with the Mohawk white streak and to announce the
arrival of the mail carrier, he usually prefers to be inside. His
contribution to the garden is to dig holes for new plantings, whether we ask
him to or not.

The name
Gorgeous George’s Fat Plants grew out of the various names we call George:
Gorgeous George, Boy George, I Am Curious George, George Jetson. Of all
these Gorgeous George just seem to flow when I was considering a name for my
website. I hope you enjoy the site and thank you for stopping by. |
